Performance and scalability is a huge problem space. There's lots of expertise out there to learn from, but it can be hard for a newcomer to organize it all and not lose the forest for the trees. The intent of this talk is to introduce people to the topic of performance and scalability in general so they have a mental framework with which to evaluate possible courses of planning, testing, and optimization, depending on their peculiar needs.
We'll keep the scope broad and refer to further reading materials for those that need to dig deeper into a particular topic, giving time for questions and answers afterward.
